Pretentious douchebag note (so you can catch the allusion): Apocryphal story about Queen Victoria: one of her daughters wrote to her asking for advice on how to handle the all-important honeymoon night, when she'd lose her virginity (they behaved, those Victorians, before marriage!). Queen Vic's immortal advice, which I quote in any class where I need to prove the Victorians are some repressed folks: "Lie still and think of England; it will all be over soon."
