I only started watching Transformers about a year ago, thanks to a friend, and I didn't see the movie until, I think, about two months ago, so the memory of screaming in horror when Prowl (definitely one of my favourite Autobots) dies and then bursting into tears when Starscream dies is still very fresh for me. I couldn't believe that it happened, at all.
And I haven't seen very much of S3, because currently my computer is too slow to really watch anything online, so the only time I watch Transformers is when I'm at my friend's house. But as a whole I get the impression of OH GOD THIS IS A CHILDREN'S SHOW WHY IS THIS HAPPENING from... most of S3 that I've seen so far. It's much darker than the first two seasons.

As far as romanticizing goes... I really don't think they'd be able to. They know each other far too well, whether it be through a Trine bond or just the sheer amount of time that they've been together. They know all of their flaws and strengths and weaknesses, and I think that they would have to accept that about each other in order to make them all stronger as a group and able to survive as long as they have in the war, and to become Megatron's Elite Trine.
