Barricade/Skywarp, Starscream
As the title saith
for [livejournal.com profile] kamiraptor 's request.
Man I haven't written these two in forever. :(

Sometimes it was hard to remember that Skywarp was known to most Decepticons as one of the most ruthless, dangerous aerial assets they had.   Barricade was so used to seeing the mischief glittering in the corners of Skywarp’s optics, the smile flirting with his callipered mouth, that sometimes it was easy to forget.

And he wanted, sometimes—all right, a lot—to forget that there was a war that might tear them apart at any moment.

“Hey!” Skywarp said, his red optics glowing in his dark-armored face, looking up from the table. His long talons stilled over the armor, the spare rounds and charges he was stowing in his storage, or fitting into magna-pods.

“Hey,” Barricade echoed. Only his was flat. Skywarp had a mission, again, and Barricade had to sit back and…hope it all worked out.

The mouth tipped into a frown. “You’re not worried, are you? I’ve got this.”

“Not worried.” Except he was.  But it would be an insult to imply he didn’t trust Skywarp.  But he knew he had to say something. ”Just…gonna miss you.”

Skywarp pushed away from the table, kneeling down. “Going to miss you, too, little spike.” He reached out, offering a hug.

Barricade wavered, stepping back. No. He wasn’t that weak or needy. Was he?

Skywarp cocked his helm to the side, a little grin flittering at the corner of his mouth, before he swooped forward, long arms circling Barricade in a hug. Barricade stiffened, braced against the sudden pressure and weight, his own hands coming up to cling to the broad black shoulders. “You going to be okay?”  Skywarp’s deep voice rumbled against him, and Barricade took a long moment to snuggle into it, letting the vibration, and the smell of the airframe grade oil and the tang of Skywarp’s engines.  He tried to memorize it: it would have to last him a while, until the jet got back.

“Yeah,” Barricade mumbled.  “Be fine.”

The arms tightened, then released him, reluctantly. “You know, I’m not used to anyone worrying about me.”

“Sorry.”

“Don’t be.”  A hand slicked over him, pausing to tweak one of his shoulder tires. “Just because something’s new doesn’t mean it’s bad.” Barricade felt a little quiver over his spark, warm and shy.  “Just don’t get crazy about it.” A grin. “That’s my job.”

It was easier to grin this time, looking up at the dark, earnest face. He nodded.

“Besides,” Skywarp continued, his optics flicking up over Barricade’s shoulder, “Someone’s got to keep Starscream’s ego in check.”

Barricade could hear a hint. He turned, the bronze jet standing in the doorway.

“Interrupting, am I?” Starscream splayed a hand over his chassis in false innocence.

“We haven’t done anything to interrupt,” Skywarp said, evenly, letting one hand drop down Barricade’s back, talons teasing at the hip kibble. He stood up, lifting Barricade with him, his heavier servos taking the grounder’s weight with ease, dipping his head in to nuzzle Barricade’s throat. He looked up, winking. “Yet.”
